Welcome to the "Moose Capital of the World"

The Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador is Internationally recognized-due to the high density of moose in the area, and Roddickton-Bide Arm is know as the "Moose Capital of the World" with a moose population of six animals per square kilometer.

It is not uncommon to see moose on lawns, in back yards, or along the streets at anytime of day or night. In addition to the moose, this area is also home to a healthy population of caribou and black bears.

The Town of Roddickton-Bide Arm has a new Natural  Heritage and Resource Centre known as the Green Moose Interpretation Centre. The centre provides a focal point for tourist attractions on the Canada Bay side of the Great Northern Peninsula, it highlights the areas unique culture, natural heritage and wildlife in the region such as the abundant moose population in the area. The Centre displays a life-sized moose and the 16-point rack is probably the feature that gives the moose display its greatest stature, or you can  listen to different moose calls.

There are other interpretive panels that display local history of the Town of Roddickton-Bide Arm in the industries of fishing, and logging or you can set down and watch a DVD displaying the local history.

Sometime in the near future there will be a gift shop in the Heritage Centre that will display local crafts, so if you are in the area come and learn about the history of our town or take a walk on the Heritage Walking Trail that is located behind the Heritage Centre. Make sure you wear proper foot wear when walking trails.
