Disconnection of Services

Water Disconnection Notices

For those individuals owing taxes to the Town from 2016 and prior today, May 11, 2017 is the last day to avoid disconnection of services by paying your account in full. All affected individuals have been severed notice of this by registered mail. For those who have not picked up the registered mail, disconnection of services will still happen after today if taxes are not paid in full.
Please refer to section 132 of the Municipalities Act
Disconnection of service
132. (1) Where a tax, fee, levy, assessment, fine or other charge imposed by a council is in arrears, in addition to other remedies that a council has to enforce payment, a council may disconnect the service of a water system, sewage system or water and sewage system provided to the person who owes the tax, fee, levy, assessment, fine or charge to the council.

Municipal Awareness Day

Students from grade 4 and 8 of Cloud River Academy participated in the Municipal Awareness Day activities at the Town office. They were honorary Councillors for the day. They learned how the Town of Roddickton- Bide Arm make important decisions to ensure people have access to essential services and recreation. Our Councillors for the future did a great job!

Garbage

The RCMP have been contacted in regard to garbage being dumped at the end of Bide Arm and around Town. Waste is collected weekly and the waste site is open Tuesday to Saturday for garbage. There are no excuses for the dumping of garbage in our community. Measures are being take to identify those person responsible.

Speeding

Over the last couple of weeks the Town has received a number of complaints on speeding in the community.
As temperatures warm up, more children and residents are out and about walking, biking etc. There are speed limits posted in different areas because of the hazards. Whatever the reason, the speed limit applies to everyone regardless of the capability of the car or the experience of the driver. The number one priority is safety. The RCMP have been notified and are taking measures to enforce the speed limits in the community. Please reduce your speed!

Part Time Maintenance Person
The Town of Roddickton-Bide Arm invites applications for a Part Time Maintenance Person. We are looking for an individual who can provide quality service to the citizens of the town.
Position Overview:

• The successful candidate would be responsible to help with the operations and delivery of services for the water and sewer systems, maintenance of streets, ditches, town properties, repair and maintenance of equipment and any other related duties that may arise.
• Assist with any projects such as Job Creation Program and Community Employment Enhancement Program when needed.
• It is expected that this person will assume the role of Superintendent of Works in his/her absence.

Qualifications:
As Part Time Maintenance Person, you will report directly to the Superintendent of Works. The successful candidate would ideally have practical experience. Trades course would be an asset. The successful candidate must have:
• excellent time management
• be a team player
• possess a valid driver’s license
• working knowledge of modern computer technology
• strong organizational skills
• be willing to complete any courses as required.

Seniors Housing Discretionary Use

URBAN AND RURAL PLANNING ACT
TOWN OF RODDICKTON-BIDE ARM
DISCRETIONARY USE NOTICE

The Town Council of Roddickton-Bide Arm is considering an application for senior housing to be located at 75 Cloud Drive. As per the Town of Roddickton-Bide Arm Development Regulations, the proposed development is a discretionary use located in the “Commercial” zone.

Before making a final decision regarding this application, the Town Council of Roddickton-Bide Arm wishes to receive any comments or representations on this matter. Anyone wishing to make a comment, objection or representation should submit a written statement outlining their concern to the Town Clerk by 4:00 pm, Monday, May 15, 2017.

Discount Date
Due to April 30, 2017 being on a Sunday, the Town will honor the 10% and 5% discount on property and water/sewer taxes for residential and commercial respectively on Monday, May , 2017.

Student Employment

Canada Summer Jobs

The Town is now accepting applications for student summer employment under the Canada Summer Jobs funding. The positions are 35 hours per week for 7 weeks. Work will start the last week of June/first week of July.
To be eligible students must:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and,
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Students must apply in writing with a resume to the undersigned on or before 4:00 PM, May 15, 2017. Resumes received after this date may not be considered.

Cold Plate Supper-Workers Needed

The Town is hosting a cold plate supper on April 25. We are looking for individuals who are willing to help prepare, serve and clean up after the event.
